Radiotherapy is a form of radiation that is used to kill tumour cells. It may be used for unresectable tumours (where surgery is not possible), or to kill residual cells when the tumour can only be partially removed.
Potential risks of radiotherapy include scarring, contractures, hair loss, skin burns as well as radiation-induced cancer.
Whether you get radiotherapy or not depends on several factors including: the size and type of tumour you have, the location (how deep under the skin the tumour is), whether it has spread to other parts of the body and whether the whole tumour can be removed.
